The story is set at Brussels-based GIJOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a Scottish arms dealer. --

-The movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble" against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit" as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

The exact circumstances escape me at the moment, but I do recall that it had something to do with him deliberatly altering her memories using a serum that was either ingested or injected, and one of his many machines.

DESTRO is the faceless power behind Military Armaments Research System, the largest manufacturer of state-of-the-art weaponry. To DESTRO, war is man's most natural state: the fittest survive and the greatest technological advances are made. He maintains a luxurious lifestyle around the world. DESTRO provides high-tech arms to any side able to meet his price and will incite war where it does not exist. He dons his silver battle mask (a family tradition based, according to the Marvel Comics series, on a religious oath, although I don't recall if they ever explain exactly what religion) and enters battle himself, either with COBRA Command (DESTRO is their major weapons supplier) or against them if it's better for business. DESTRO respects the G.I. JOE team for their combat skills and expertise, but abhors them for wasting such skills to maintain peace. He's totally dedicated to seeing them undermined, subverted, or destroyed!

Also remaining to be seen, is whether or not they will continue the ongoing romance between Destro and the Baroness. At one point he was ready to settle down with her and give up being an arms dealer. She was also willing to leave COBRA Command to retire with him to his families ancestral home (a castle in Scotland), but the COBRA Commander was not so willing to part with either one of them and manipulated events to see that neither of them retired. There is still some bad blood between them and the Commander over that series of events.

Also to be determined... What, if any, relationship is there between Destro and the twins, Tomax and Xamot (I think that was their names). They were also arms dealers and high finance players who dealt with COBRA, but were also somewhat freelance and outside of the Commanders direct control. Do they work for him? Are they competitors? Are they possibly even related somehow? This last is unlikely, because if I recall correctly, their background dossier has them listed as French, and Destro is "Unknown", but due to what has been revealed, is most likely British (Scotland is still part of Britain, right?) or American with British roots.

Ripcord grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where he joined the Civil Air Patrol while still in high school. Once there, he fell in love with skydiving and joined the Army to jump from higher altitudes in even more dangerous circumstances. In Airborne Infantry, Ripcord became a HALO jumper, which stands for "High Altitude Low Opening". In order to avoid detection, a HALO jumper jumps from very high altitudes, drops for thousands of feet, and then opnes his chute at the last second, just enough to break the fall. This is the most fearless group in the Airborne Infantry, and Ripcord still loves to jump. Ripcord was eager to join the G.I. Joe team, and when the older Joes were promoted and given desk jobs, Ripcord was to be one of their replacements. It was soon obvious that the original Joes were not totally finished with their previous duties, but Ripcord and the other new Joes remained on the team.

Hawk comes from a wealthy family whose influence got him into West Point where he graduated at the top of his class. During the war in Vietnam, Hawk was stationed at home as an officer at a headquarters unit. During that time it was Hawk's sad duty to greet Snake-Eyes when he returned home from the war and inform him of his family's death. Years later, Snake-Eyes was one of the first members of the G.I. Joe team, personally chosen by Hawk.

Prior to the creation of G.I. Joe, Hawk was a lieutenant colonel commanding security forces during a peacekeeping mission in Borovia. His men uncovered explosives that had been set in a refugee camp and would have killed a number of children if they had gone off. Hawk was upset to discover that they learned of the bombs' locations after beating up a terrorist found in the camp, carrying bomb-making equipment. The interrogation was carried out by Lonzo "Stalker" Wilkinson, a sergeant under Hawk's command. Stalker had known the explosives had to be found quickly, and did whatever he could to get the information to find them. The major general who Hawk reported to was livid over what had happened, and became even more upset when Hawk refused to give up Stalker and took responsibility for what had occurred. He admitted that it had been wrong, but he would have done the same thing in Stalker's place. Hawk believed that the blame for such a necessary evil should be placed at the top of the chain of command, and wanted to see who was willing to accept it. Hawk was court-martialed for the incident, but his principaled stand impressed General Lawrence J. Flagg. When Flagg learned that Hawk's commanding general had hired mercenaries to have Hawk killed, Flagg threatened to expose the general's actions unless he dropped the charges against Hawk. Hawk did not learn about the incident until some time later.

As a full colonel, Hawk was appointed field commander of the new Special Counter-Terrorist Group Delta, code-named G.I. Joe. Directly under the command of General Flagg, Hawk first recruited Stalker to the team. Stalker helped Hawk choose Snake-Eyes and many more of the original thirteen Joes. Though he spent much of his time running operations from Joe headquarters, Hawk quickly gained the respect of his soldiers and participated in a number of early missions, including the rescue of Dr. Adele Burkhart from Cobra. He later personally commanded a rescue team when several Joes were stranded in Sierra Gordo. During a battle in the streets of Washington, DC, Hawk was shot in the back by Cobra Commander as he fought with Destro. Luckily, Hawk recovered and was able to apprehend Major Bludd.

ZARTAN can alter his skin color at will to blend in with his environment. He is also a master of make-up and disguise, a ventriloquist, a linguist (over 20 languages and dialects), an acrobatic-contortionist and a practitioner of several mystic martial arts. Very little is known of his background and origins, but most security agencies agree that he must have had European military academy training (probably St. Cyr). It was later revealed, in the Marvel Comics series, that Zartan was also a student of the STORM SHADOW family ninja school, and was indeed the mysterious archer who murdered the schools "Hard Master", Storm Shadows uncle.

It has also been conjectured that his ability to change his face and skin color may be a latent mutant ability. This was shown in a GI JOE/X-Men crossover a number of years ago, but never confirmed (to my knowledge). The further conjecture that stemmed from that is that he may be related in some way to Raven Darkholme (Mystique) from the X-Men's list of villains.

STORM SHADOW can scale sheer walls with bare hands and feet, move with blinding speed, and endure unspeakable hardship and pain.

STORM SHADOW served with SNAKE EYES in Southeast Asia and both of them later studied the secret art of Ninjitsu with the family of STORM SHADOW, a ninja clan that could trace its history back through thirty generations of ninjas. Unhinged by the murder of his uncle and mentor (The Hard Master), he infiltrated COBRA seeking revenge. It was revealed in the Marvel Comics series that his uncle was murdered by another student of the STORM SHADOW family; Zartan. After some time serving with COBRA, he found vengeance to be a poor substitute for life. Now, in semi-retirement at a remote mountain hideaway, he occasionally takes on a special mission or two if SNAKE EYES asks him nicely, and has assisted Snake-Eyes in training the GI JOE Ninja Force, which includes the two of them, Scarlett, Jinx, Quick Kick and one or two others I cannot recall at this moment.

Shipwreck grew up in the shadow of the San Diego Navy Yards and dreamed of a life at sea. At the youngest possible age, he joined the Navy with his parents' permission. He graduated the Great Lakes Naval Gunnery School and later served with distinction in the Mekong Delta, fighting smugglers and river pirates. He also spent time at bases in Japan and Cuba, and participated in carrier-based operations in the Middle East. His experience eventually earned him a spot on the G.I. Joe team. He first worked with the team in the Gulf of Mexico, directing the Joes in readying the tactical battle platform. He wasn't impressed with the soldiers' potential as sailors, and didn't make many friends as he ordered them around as the platform was made operational. In the battle with Cobra that followed, it was obvious that Shipwreck's bark was just as bad as his bite, and he wasn't as disciplined as he lead the Joes to first believe. The quintessial -- almost stereotypical -- sailor, Shipwreck at times seemed like he belonged more on a pirate ship than an aircraft carrier. But, despite all of his brash and obnoxious behavior, he still proved to be courageous, tough and loyal.

Code Name: Heavy Duty

The code name used by U.S. Army Sergeant Lamont A. Morris. Growing up in Chicago, Heavy Duty surprised his parents when he developed a love of classical music. He even became an accomplished classical guitarist. When he enlisted at age eighteen, Heavy Duty became skilled at operating the Man-Portable Heavy Weapons System, finding it required the same skills as playing the guitar: left hand/right hand coordination and the ability to concentrate on simultaneous multiple tasks. Heavy Duty eventually became a member of the G.I. Joe team, serving with the team in the final years before its shutdown in 1994. Among his many missions, he helped defend the Pit in Utah from a surprise invasion by Cobra Commander and his troops. After the team was disbanded, Heavy Duty returned home to Chicago where he opened a small in-home recording studio. When the Joe team was reinstated in 2001, Heavy Duty rejoined the team, and fought a highly-advanced Cobra BAT in the streets of his hometown, Chicago. He was later one of the many Joes involved in an invasion of Cobra Island to battle the forces of a revived Serpentor

Norrin Radd was a young astronomer of the planet Zenn-La. In order to save his homeworld from destruction by a fearsome cosmic entity known as Galactus, Norrin made a bargain with the being, pledging himself to serve as its herald. Imbued in return with a small portion of Galactus' Power Cosmic, Norrin acquired great powers, and a silvery appearance. He created for himself a surfboard-like craft — modeled after a childhood fantasy of his — on which he would travel at speeds beyond that of light. Known from then on as the "Silver Surfer," Norrin began to roam the cosmos searching for new planets for Galactus to consume. When his travels finally took him to Earth, the "Silver Surfer" came face-to-face with the Fantastic Four, a team of powerful superheroes that helped him to rediscover his nobility of spirit. Betraying Galactus, the "Silver Surfer" saved Earth but was punished in return with everlasting exile there.

The live-action Dragon Ball Z movie, titled just Dragonball, has expanded its cast to include two more unique additions: Chow Yun-Fat and Emmy Rossum. Justin Chatwin stars as the main character Goku and is joined by James Marsters as Piccolo and Jamie Chung as Chi-Chi. Chow Yun-Fat will play Master Roshi. The film is an epic sci-fi adventure that follows Goku, a warrior alien who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the universe and controlling mystical objects known as Dragon Balls. Of all movies I thought I'd take an interest in, Dragonball never crossed my mind.
The film is currently shooting in Mexico City and Los Angeles under the direction of James Wong (Final Destination, Jet Li's The One, Final Destination 3). The script was also written by Wong and the film is being produced by Kung Fu Hustle director Stephen Chow.
The original Japanese anime Dragon Ball Z series first debuted in 1989. The first run of the English Version of the show began airing in September 1996 on the WB and now runs almost every day on the Cartoon Network. In the movie, a young boy named Goku seeks out upon his grandfather's dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls (of which he has one) in order to prevent Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world. Master Roshi, played by Chow Yun-Fat, is Goku's mentor, helping him achieve the highest state of fighting and spiritual powers.

Max Payne

This one came out of left field! Mark Wahlberg will star as Max Payne in a live-action adaptation of the video game to be directed by John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix, and The Omen). The video game is a bestselling hit from Rockstar that first debuted in 2001 and followed up with a sequel, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, in 2003. The game is a third-person shooter noir crime thriller and is one of my all-time favorite games, so without a doubt I'm already looking forward to this.
Max Payne is a cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects. The game used bullet-time as well as a noir and comic like feel to it, which will lend itself great to a film adaptation. The script was written by newcomer Beau Thorne. The film will go into production immediately after Wahlberg finishes The Lovely Bones with Peter Jackson, meaning yet another pre-strike movie.

This movie will focus on the adventures of the young Eric Lensherr, who will someday become a villain called Magneto, who was born with the amazing mutant ability to control magnetism and shape many forms of metals. The movie will be set in the period between 1939 (when Eric was a prisoner at Auschwitz) and 1955, and will include the details of how Magneto first became friends and partners with another powerful mutant, Charles Xavier (who is one of the U.S. soldiers who liberates Eric from the Nazis), and how Eric uses his abilities to track down the former Nazis who killed his parents in the concentration camps.

This movie is based upon the Marvel Comics mutant leader (and villain) first introduced in 1963 in 'Uncanny X-Men' #1 as the leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. More directly, this is a spin-off prequel of the popular 'X-Men' movies, in which Magneto was played (brilliantly) by Sir Ian McKellen.

Here it is! More Xmen movies! X-Men Origins: Wolverine will hit theaters worldwide on May OF 2009. After all of the very promising statements coming from both director Gavin Hood and Hugh Jackman recently, this sounds like it could be one of the greatest comic book movies of this decade. I know I'm certainly excited already and thankfully we now have a date to mark down exactly 562 days (from today). Get ready for Wolverine to return in 2009!
The movie will explore Wolverine's violent and romantic past, and his complex relationship with Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth) and the ominous Weapon X program, as well as his encounters with other mutants. The official reports state that it "is expected to feature many other mutants - some new to the film franchise and some from one or more of the three X-Men films." As to who exactly, that hasn't yet been revealed. However, Gambit is one of those rumored to appear as is the non-mutant character William Stryker, who is rumored to be played by Liev Schreiber. X-Men Origins: Wolverine will start shooting this fall in various locations including Australia, New Zealand, and New Orleans.
